How to Choose the Right Money Packet: Size, Paper and Finish Guide
Money packets (also known as red packets, ang bao or sampul duit raya) are a much-loved part of festive giving in Singapore and the region. They are used during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali, and for many businesses they are also a thoughtful way to say thank you to clients, partners and staff. A customised packet with your company logo carries your brand into homes during the festive season.
With so many options, it helps to know what makes one packet different from another. This guide walks you through the three decisions that matter most: size, paper and finish.
1. Start with the size
We offer three money packet sizes, so you can match the packet to how it will be used.
| Code | Orientation | Size (H x W) |
| MP101 | Portrait | 154mm x 79.5mm |
| MP103 | Landscape | 79.5mm x 154mm |
| MP104 | Portrait (larger) | 167mm x 85mm |
MP101 and MP103 share the same dimensions, but the layout is turned. That changes how a design reads. Logos and tall illustrations often suit portraits, while wide scenes and horizontal text suit landscape. MP104 is the largest of the three, giving your logo and message a little more room.
2. Pick a paper that matches your style
Paper changes how your packet looks, feels and is remembered. Here are our four options:
- 130gsm Art Paper: A straightforward option for a simpler finish.
- 150gsm Art Paper + Matt Lamination: A smooth, understated finish for an elegant look.
- 140gsm Linen: A textured surface with a refined, classic appearance.
- 150gsm Art Paper + Soft Touch Lamination: A soft, velvety feel for a more luxurious presentation.
Which one should you choose?
- Giving to a large number of recipients and keeping costs sensible? Semi gloss art paper is a good place to start.
- Want a clean, professional look? Matt lamination is a safe choice.
- Prefer something traditional with character? Linen stands out through its texture.
- Sending to key clients or partners? Soft touch lamination gives a premium feel in the hand.
3. Add a finishing touch with gold hot stamping
Hot stamping uses heat and pressure to transfer a thin layer of metallic foil onto paper. The result is a shiny gold detail that catches the light and feels special, especially on logos, festive greetings or borders.
The good news is that gold hot stamping is available on all four paper options, so you can add it to whichever look suits you best. Each pairing gives a different effect:
- Semi gloss art paper: A bright, festive look where the gold stands out clearly.
- Matt lamination: The gold shines against a calm, understated background.
- Soft touch lamination: A velvety surface with a gold accent for a premium feel.
- Linen: A classic texture combined with a touch of shine.
Hot stamping works best on simple, bold shapes, since very fine lines may not show as clearly. If you are unsure, our team can advise on your design.
4. Choose from 135 ready-made Chinese New Year designs
You do not need a designer to get started. We have 135 ready-made Chinese New Year designs, free to use, in a range of styles. You can personalise any of them with your company logo and details.
A simple way to narrow down your choice:
- Who is it for? Clients, business partners and staff may suit different tones.
- What is your brand style? Choose colours and motifs that sit well with your logo.
- How much space does your logo need? Pick a design with a clear area for it.
Before anything goes to print, we prepare a digital artwork preview for your review, so you can check everything first.
