What you should do for your flyer design

posted on 20/08/2021

Everything's digitized and you might think if flyer printing for business is still in need? Answer is YES, why not? Everything has its strengths and weaknesses. Flyer printing is more cost effective and it is an effective marketing tool via flyer distribution. People might miss your advertising email as the mail might go into their junk box, but they will definitely notice your flyer if it is in their letterbox or doorstep. Thus, a good flyer design will give you more chances to increase your business awareness. In this article, we are going to share with you what you should take note when preparing your flyer design. But if you are not familiar with the design part, welcome to contact us for our designer service which only starts with $50.

1. Decide a correct size for your flyer
The popular size of flyer is A5 (148mm X 210mm) as it is suitable for hand holding and it can fit into the letterbox. But the size also depends on the content. If there is a lot of information you would like to share, print in A4 size and fold it into half would be a good choice too. If the flyer is to stick on the wall, you may opt for A3 size and use it as a poster.

2. Ask for a template from printing supplier
Don’t go a long way. Just get a template from your supplier before you start to design. Every supplier might have a different guideline for the artwork such as bleed size and safety area. An artwork with bleed size will ensure your printing outcome without white borders and the safety zone will protect your important information or picture from being cut off. So these are also an important part when preparing the artwork. You may contact us at sales@easitech.sg for a free template.

3. Colour mode must in CMYK
You might notice that there are different colour modes that can be used when designing an artwork. For example, RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). RGB is mainly used for digital devices such as television, pc or mobile screen view. CMYK is a standard colour mode which is widely used in the printing industry. We strongly recommend that you start preparing your printing artwork in CMYK because the apparent colour change from RGB to CMYK can be dramatic, such as in picture 1.0 below. So to prepare your artwork in CMYK can ensure the colour comes out to meet your requirements.

4. Use a suitable font size for your content
Organise your content into three levels which are title, sub-title and description. Usually the title can be in clear and larger font size to grab reader’s attention. You may bold or enlarge the font for important messages too. For example, if you want to design a flyer for promotion, you may emphasize the discount or price as it is important. For best reading experience, 8pt of font size is recommended and please don’t print the content font size smaller than 6pt.

5. Include at least 1 graphic / picture
We need to grab people’s attention in seconds when they hold your flyer and a good graphic will increase your chances. A single and large image will grab people’s attention much more than lots of small images. Make sure the graphics or images are in high resolution and avoid using the image with watermark behind such as picture 2.0 below.
